By accessing Risk Terminal — including programmatic access — you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully before use.
1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
—These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern all access to and use of the Risk Terminal service ("the Service"), operated by Risk Terminal Ltd, registered in England and Wales.
—By accessing the Service — whether by creating an account, browsing as a guest, or accessing any endpoint programmatically — you confirm that you have read and agreed to these Terms in full. Acceptance is binding on access, not merely on account creation.
—Automated access, including bots, scrapers, and programmatic clients that request any Service endpoint, constitutes acceptance of these Terms by the operator of that automated system.
—If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately cease all use of the Service.
2. SERVICE DESCRIPTION
—Risk Terminal is an AI-assisted geopolitical risk intelligence platform. It ingests public event data from GDELT, UCDP, USGS, and other open-data sources, applies a proprietary quantitative scoring model, and presents the output as risk scores, regional assessments, and AI-generated intelligence briefings.
—Risk scores are probabilistic outputs of a quantitative model trained on public event data. They are model outputs — not verified intelligence assessments, not predictions, and not certainties.
—The Service and its outputs do not constitute financial advice, investment advice, legal advice, security advice, or a substitute for licensed professional intelligence services.
—The Service makes no claim of completeness or real-time accuracy. Scores may lag breaking events by hours. GDELT and other ingestion pipelines have inherent coverage gaps — conflict zones with limited media coverage may be underrepresented.
—We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice.
3. ACCOUNTS AND ACCESS
—You must be 18 or older to create an account or access the Service.
—One account per person. You must not create multiple accounts or share credentials with other individuals or organisations.
—Service accounts and API access for organisations require written permission from Risk Terminal. Contact api@riskterminal.io for commercial API agreements.
—You are responsible for maintaining the security of your credentials. Notify us immediately at security@riskterminal.io if you suspect unauthorised access.
—We may throttle, suspend, or terminate accounts without notice for abuse, excessive automated requests, breach of these Terms, or at our sole discretion.
—Free tier limitations apply: rate-limited API access, limited event history, no bulk export. Pro tier limits are defined in the plan documentation at the time of subscription.
4. ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
—Permitted uses: personal research, journalism, academic use, internal briefings for organisational decision-making, policy analysis, and editorial work.
—Prohibited: automated bulk scraping or systematic extraction of data without an API data licence agreement with Risk Terminal.
—Prohibited: redistribution, resale, or sublicensing of risk scores, briefings, or any Service content as part of a competing intelligence product or data feed.
—Prohibited: use of Service outputs in automated trading systems, algorithmic decision engines, or systematic investment processes without a commercial data licence.
—Prohibited: use in weapons development, targeting systems, autonomous lethal systems, or any military application of any kind.
—Prohibited: use to identify, surveil, profile, track, or target individuals, groups, or populations.
—Prohibited: attempting to reverse-engineer, extract, or replicate the scoring methodology or model weights by any means.
—Any violation results in immediate account termination and may result in legal action.
5. DATA AND AI DISCLAIMERS
—All risk scores are outputs of a quantitative model. The model may be wrong. A country scoring 66 when an analyst would assess 85 is an expected limitation, not a defect.
—GDELT coverage is uneven across regions and languages. Conflict zones with limited international media presence may be systematically underscored. Do not use a single score as the sole basis for security decisions.
—AI briefings are generated by Anthropic Claude. Like all large language models, Claude may hallucinate — producing plausible-sounding but factually incorrect statements. Every AI-generated output is clearly labelled as AI-generated.
—Risk Terminal is not responsible for decisions made based on AI-generated content, model scores, or any other Service output. Users bear full responsibility for validating any outputs before acting on them.
—Historical scores and event data represent the model's retrospective assessment at the time of ingestion and may not reflect current conditions.
6. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
—The Risk Terminal platform, scoring methodology, proprietary model weights, codebase, scoring algorithms, and original written editorial content are owned by Risk Terminal Ltd and protected by copyright and trade secret law.
—Third-party data is used in accordance with each source's applicable licence. Attribution summary: GDELT (CC0 / Public Domain); UCDP — Uppsala Conflict Data Program (CC BY 4.0); V-Dem Project (CC BY 4.0); World Bank WGI (CC BY 4.0); UNHCR Refugee Statistics (CC BY 4.0); ReliefWeb / UN OCHA (CC BY 4.0); USGS Earthquake Hazards (US Government / Public Domain); FRED — Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (US Government / Public Domain); US Treasury / OFAC (US Government / Public Domain); Financial Modeling Prep (Commercial API, key-authenticated); Semantic Scholar API (AllenAI, public access).
—The VIEWS conflict forecast dataset (Violence & Impacts Early Warning System, PRIO) and BIS Statistics are used under CC BY-NC 4.0 (Attribution-NonCommercial). These datasets are incorporated for informational and analytical research purposes only and are not resold as standalone data products. Operators of paid commercial API data tiers must obtain a separate commercial licence from PRIO (views@prio.org) and the Bank for International Settlements before incorporating these datasets.
—News content ingested via RSS feeds (Reuters, BBC, Al Jazeera, Associated Press, Bellingcat, ISW, and others) is aggregated under fair use for non-competing geopolitical risk analysis. Risk Terminal does not republish full article text, does not compete with news organisations, and attributes all events to their originating source. Source URLs are preserved and linked in event records.
—AI-generated briefings are produced using the Anthropic Claude API. Risk Terminal owns the output of API calls made with its credentials pursuant to Anthropic's Terms of Service. Briefings incorporate transformative analysis of open-source data and do not reproduce copyrighted source material verbatim.
—You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from proprietary Service content without written permission. Fair use for journalism and academic citation applies in accordance with applicable law.
7. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
—The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
—To the maximum extent permitted by law, Risk Terminal's total aggregate liability for any claim arising from use of the Service is capped at fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £100 (whichever is greater), regardless of the theory of liability.
—Risk Terminal is not liable for: consequential, indirect, or punitive damages; loss of profit; decisions made based on risk scores or intelligence outputs; intelligence failures or events not captured by the model; latency in event ingestion; or reliance on any AI-generated content.
—Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
8. GOVERNING LAW
—These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
—The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service.
9. CHANGES TO TERMS
—We may update these Terms at any time. The current version is always available at riskterminal.io/terms.
—For material changes, we will notify registered users by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
—Continued use of the Service after the 30-day notice period constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
—If you do not accept the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may request account deletion at legal@riskterminal.io.
